Product Description

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B (T1) Compression Set Fixture (CCSI-D395-B-T1)

Where the D395/D575 combination fixture above covers four test procedures across two standards, this fixture is purpose-built for one: ASTM D395 Method B, compression set under constant deflection, sized to accommodate both Type 1 and Type 2 specimens. It also doubles for ASTM D1229 (compression set at low temperature), since the mechanical setup for holding a specimen at fixed deflection is the same regardless of the temperature the test runs at.

Construction follows the same A2 tool steel, precision-ground, CNC-machined, chrome-plated approach used across CCSi’s UltraLife fixture line, with extra-thick plates to resist warping from repeated thermal cycling and to leave room for restoration down the line rather than outright replacement. What sets this fixture apart hardware-wise is its connecting bolt spec: 0.625″ Grade 5 bolts paired with oversized washers that spread clamping force across a wider area, which keeps the plates from flexing under load — a detail that matters more on a constant-deflection test than it would on a constant-force setup, since any plate flex directly skews the deflection being held. All fasteners carry a zinc anti-corrosion plating.

Each fixture is individually serialized with D395 certification, NIST traceability, and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance. If your testing program also needs D395 Method A or D575 procedures, the combination D395/D575 Tensile-Compression Fixture covers all four methods in one unit instead of running separate fixtures.

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B Compression Set Fixture: Quality Manufacturing Fill 118 Copy 1 Created with Sketch.

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B Compression Set Fixtures are manufactured from homogenous, solid, high carbon content A2 tool steel. Each undergoes precision grinding and CNC machining to exacting requirements, after which the plates and spacers are industrial chrome plated.

Precision grinding ensures a parallel surface profile of the plates and meets the minimum surface finish requirements, while CNC machining provides ultra-close dimensional tolerances. The quality of materials, design, and engineering serve to provide the highest quality test outcomes possible, over an extended service life.

The plates are thicker than standard fixtures, withstanding the deleterious effects of exposure to elevated and subnormal temperatures. This also accommodates later restoration, adding yet further to the fixture’s cost effectiveness.

The connecting bolts are 0.625 inches (15.875 mm) in diameter and of Grade 5 quality, resisting distortion from over tightening. The heavy duty, over-sized washers evenly distribute the force applied to the hexagonal bolts and nuts over a larger area… virtually eliminating plate flexing. All connectors are plated with anti-corrosive zinc.

UltraLife ASTM D395 Method B Compression Set Fixtures are individually serialized and include a certification to ASTM D395, traceable to NIST, and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
